Featuring triple layer protection, our botanical face masks are made from double back-to-back layers of smart Tencel fabric with a central PU layer. The outer material is not only breathable and waterproof, but completely natural, and is one we have used for a long time in the manufacture of our botanical bedding protectors, with thousands used by our customers on their beds worldwide. As a response to the recent global pandemic, we identified this fabric as an ideal material for use in a face mask, with unique benefits uniting cosmetic properties, freshness, thermo-regulation, waterproofness, stretch-ability and breathability. Furthermore, this fabric is currently being used in face masks throughout Europe to protect medical staff and healthcare workers during the pandemic.
Our botanical face masks have recently been tested (June 2020) for bacterial filtration efficiency, standards to which all medical grade and respirator face masks are tested against. The fabric used in our masks successfully passed BFE testing with a bacterial filtration efficiency of 99.9% which is a standard of filtration equivalent to N95 type 3 and FFP3. You can view and download a copy of the certificate from these test results here. Our masks are now undergoing further tests to more stringent standards, and this page will be updated with results as we receive them.
The fibre used in our anti-bacterial face masks contains the essential trace element zinc oxide. Zinc contributes to cell regeneration and skin renewal, supporting the natural processes of our bodies. This element has a decisive influence on well-being and it is present everywhere in the body, critically important to our core functions and contributing to digestion and energy production. Moreover, zinc also has a vital function for the skin, helping to defend against infections and promoting healing with anti-bacterial properties. This cosmetic effect takes place when the skin gives off moisture, and is an active exchange between the fibres and the skin. Since zinc is a component of the skin, building enzymes, it operates directly on the skin and will remain intact at all the times, even after many washes. Zinc oxide is a natural anti-bacterial and therefore also provides odour-reducing properties. This effect is based on the oligodynamic process, which describes a disruption in the bacteria metabolism. The cell membrane is altered and the exchange of substances with the environment is made more difficult.
The fabric structure of our masks is soft knitted stretch jersey, which is laminated with a breathable and unnoticeable polyurethane membrane. This membrane prevents moisture getting through in either direction, making them double moisture resistant, yet breathable. The waterproof properties of our polyurethane membrane allows complete protection against liquid spillage, stains, bacteria and allergens, breathable to at least 1000 gr/m2 per day. This breathability allows moisture vapour transmission (molecular diffusion caused by different levels of humidity in either side of the membrane) which helps to reduce heat and humidity, improving the comfort of our masks when worn.
Totally natural and ethical, our masks are made from natural cellulose fibre, coming from sustainable forest plantations and are therefore 100% biobased. These fibres are exceptionally pure and not burdened with pesticides or other agricultural chemicals. The material has been tested according to Oeko-tex Standard 100, achieving class I product category and therefore meet the human-ecological requirements presently established for baby items. The smooth surface of this material is extremely pleasant on the skin and highly recommended for those with sensitive skin.
Reusable and machine washable up to 90 degrees, you can also dry these botanical face masks in a tumble dryer. Due to the time of manufacture and the minimum fabric difference, the prices for our different sizes differ slightly, but we do include free postage nationwide. Packs are also available in sets of 3, offering a 10% discount on standalone prices. Orders and amounts are limited per customer and we urge people to be kind and think of others. Due to the hygenic nature of our masks and the possibilty of cross contamination, we cannot accept returns on these products where the original delivery packaging has been opened. Stay safe, keep protected and remember spread the love, not the virus.
